…or is it? This is the first post on my new Blog, which very few people will likely see for a few weeks to come. I am currently in the process of finishing the template for integration into Wordpress. I have never integrated a template into Wordpress before so this should be a nice learning experience for me. First, a little bit about myself. My name is Bradford Liedel, I have a wife whom I am very much in love with, a completely oblivious cat, and an evil cat. In 1999 I started a little website called ModemHelp.Net which has grown to 100,000-300,000 pageviews a day. It is used by almost every major English-speaking ISP in the world (even several non English-speaking ISPs) as a technical resource.
When I first started advertising on ModemHelp.Net it was during the “dot com bubble burst” and it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I did not advertise on the website for some time until Google AdSense came along. I began monetizing the site with Google Adsense and soon found other great Ad Agencies and revenue streams. At that time, I didn’t find very many good resources for finding those revenue streams. I also utilized many different resources in order to build and maintain the website. When I moved to a dedicated server I faced many hurdles and learned a great deal in resolving those hurdles. There are many blogs out there that tell someone how to make money off of their blog, and many of these principles hold true for other types of websites, but are not complete.
The Webmaster’s Edge is being built to be a “Definitive Webmaster Resource” just as ModemHelp.Net was built to be a “Definitive ISP Support Resource”. I’m still plugging away at ModemHelp.Net, but have decided to devote a great deal of time to this new resource.
This Blog will detail the additions and updates to the resource pages, as well as a few other topics. One thing to note is that the most important tool a Webmaster needs to build their site is to be passionate about their subject. I am passionate about this subject and I plan to give you the other tools that a Webmaster needs.
Some people believe the first post on a blog is always the toughest. I didn’t find anything at all tough about it and can’t wait to get this site live and begin promoting it.
Speaking of promotion, John Chow is a webmaster/blogger whom I met through his website The Tech Zone and now runs a great blog JohnChow.Com, which I feel is a recommended read. He proved some great principles in his blog, in that people enjoy reading about one’s successes and how they brought those about. It is through those successes that the readers can better find ways to forge their own successes. I plan to do the same while I build The Webmaster’s Edge. I will be open with the methods I use to promote the site, advertising I utilize on the site, and the growth of the site.
More important than being passionate about web design and server administration, I am most passionate about helping people and sharing my knowledge to help others be successful. This is why I built ModemHelp.Net and why I continued to build it even after the “bubble popped”. It is also why I am so excited about this new site and why I feel that it will quickly become one of the sites you find yourself visiting on a daily basis.
Welcome to The Webmaster’s Edge!
