As you are starting out, spending money on domain names that mimic your website seems like a less than prudent expenditure. However, as someone who frequently types in the wrong domain name, hoping that I'll get close to where I'm intending to go, I can tell you that it will pay off in the end. As your website gets larger, and more people utilize it, you may find yourself the target of one of those spam-vertising sites. I guess should tell you 2 things: 1. That you should of grabbed that similar sounding/looking domain name before they did. 2. That you're moving on up, because Weezy, they don't misguide people from just anybody! lol

Remember, that even though it comes out of your pocket to begin with, business expenses are also tax write-offs.

I usually use http://domainsite.com/ for my registrations. At $6.99 per domain, it is a pretty good deal. I'm sure there are cheaper out there though. I've never worked with this registrar but found one that registers for $5 - http://us.domaincentral.com/

It might not seem worthwhile early on in a website's lifecycle, but it can be very helpful later on indeed!

I like these suggestions a lot. But is there superior place to purchase your domain name? Maybe one where buying up alternate "wrong" addresses won't cost the full price? I'm cheap.

Hmmm...you've made me consider though, that even at full price getting the alternate addresses might be worthwhile. Thanks!
