I have had my first questions from my Ask Me And I Will Answer post and it has spawned some ideas for some upcoming articles on The Edge. While I think people should be helpful whether there is a gain or deficit, being helpful can also be good promotion for your website! When you are helpful to others, you can often generate links, blog posts about your site, and word of mouth about you and your site.

Personally I think that more people in this world need to be more helpful in general. Whether it be a charity, someone you run into on the street, or even a friend, being helpful is just good Karma and makes you a better person. I recently received an e-mail from the US Department of State and I think that I was accidentally cc’d on the e-mail because I answered another person’s question that was related to the project they are working on. While my gut reaction was to delete the e-mail, I looked at it and realized that I may be able to lend some additional help on the problem they are encountering. So I responded with my thoughts and let them know that I think that I was accidentally CC’d. While I have not yet received a response, I feel good that I may have helped them along on their project. Sure, it was a small bit of help, but if you can’t take a bit of time out of your day to help someone else, how can one expect someone else to take time out of their day to help you when you need it?

If I help just one person with the information produced on this site, it has all been worth it. If I can help thousands or even millions of people? That would be most excellent and is indeed the intention. :-)
