I highly recommend backing up your data to two places if possible. Whether it is to two hard drives, DVD + hard drive, or tape backup + hard drive, it will help to avoid any unnecessary mishaps. A good friend of mine recently backed up a large amount of data to DVD before a format and several of the DVD burns ended up being bad, losing some valuable data. One of my hard drives has been acting…strangely…which has made me to decide to back it up to two hard drives, while some of the data will also go onto DVD for archival storage.

Where you back things up can be just as important as what you back up. The more valuable the data, the more places and the more often you should back that data up.
