Hello Bradford. I have plenty of questions, but first I would like to tell you that Tyna sent me your way.

I’m still new to blogging and I’m going through some growing pains. We had someone design the site and now I’m trying to take over with some understanding. Our site is a Wordpress site and uses PHP code. Here are some of my questions:

1. When someone talks about exchanging links are they referring to http://www.linkexchanged.com? If so, is it worth $19.29/month for me and will it really generate that much more traffic?
2. Like I said my site is a Wordpress site using PHP and everything seems to be in the default themes folder. How is this setup and what would I need to change if I wanted to add something to the site? To me, this is a little different than just having an index.html file and going from there. I know this question may require a long answer so whatever you want to tell me will be appreciated.
3. What files would I change and how to add the following: Page description, meta keywords, alt image attributes, page keywords and descriptions, get on Google Pagerank, get on Yahoo directory and get on Zoominfor. I basically want to improve the probability of someone looking at the site.
4. As if all that isn’t enough, what would you suggest be our first attempt to make some money? If you think we need to do a lot of other stuff first, please let me know.

1 – I wouldn’t spend $19.29 on link exchanges. They might be useful in some search engines and SOMEWHAT useful in Google, but not terribly. I would find sites that relate to your content and contact their site owner about exchanging links, just don’t do it in a “spammy” way. Let them know you are starting a new Blog and that you were wondering if they would include you in their link list or blogroll. Let them know that you’re up for linking to them as well.

2 – It is quite different. I plan to do some future tutorials on this. I’ll make a post this week on the “Basics” to help you on your way. :)

3 – You want the All-In-One SEO Pack. It is a Wordpress plugin that will help you in many, many ways. See:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

4 – I would start with Google, which you already have. I would also recommend Chitika:
https://chitika.com/mm_overview.php?refid=bliedel
Yes, yes, the link is a blatant affiliate URL which means that I’ll make money from Chitika if you make money from Chitika, but then…it is in my best interests for you to make money with them if that is the case, thus I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t think it was worth recommending. :-) Chitika offers some really interesting ad options, but it also offers a feature called AdPro which I will be reviewing in a future post. AdPro allows you to make direct ad sales, but Chitika will take care of the signup, billing, and ad serving. You keep 100% of the profit, they take nothing. It is a free service they are offering to their members, likely to help increase popularity of their brand even further. I think it is just great!

Oh, I completely forgot Kontera as well:

Kontera is what generates the ad links with double underlines you see on this Blog. Kontera is a great money-maker.

I left a comment yesterday asking several questions. Before I ask again, did you get them?

Tom,

Arg…it was in my Akismet Spam queue. Sorry about that, just found it and removed it from the queue. *smacks forehead* Taking a look at your questions now. :-)

Can you look at my site and tell me what you think and what I should do to increase traffic?

I also need help with two widgets. The related posts widget isn’t showing the list properly and when I change the amount of related posts in the settings it stays at 5 – the size is also larger than other text. Also, the ubd-block-ad plugin isn’t working right for me at all. Every time I put code in it, the screen goes blank before I can even save the settings. I just want a widget that will allow me to put 125×125 ads in the sidebar easily. Hopefully I will have a need for it.

As far as increasing traffic, I highly recommend you read and follow my Promoting The Edge series. I’ll be posting a summary of the series thus far this week or next. The SEO plugin that I sent you in the other post will also help quite a bit.On your related-posts text size: You don’t have li and /li tags wrapping around the links. In:”Before / After (Post Title) :”Add the < li > Before and < /li > after (without the spaces). This should fix both the text size and the “wrapping”.When you change the number of posts from 5 to a different number, when you go back to the page, does it still say 5 or does it show the other number?I just did a post on the UBD-Block-Ad plugin actually. In order to fix the “blank page” issue you’ll need to use Internet Explorer 7 instead of FireFox. See:http://webmastersedge.net/home/2008/impnerd-random-ads-vs-ubd-block-ad/
